Après Harry Potter et Twilight, Hunger games est la nouvelle franchise adaptée d’une série de livres pour adolescentes. C’est déjà assez segmentant comme ça pour que chacun se sente ou non concerné selon son âge, son sexe et ses préférences cinématographiques. Pourtant, malgré le ciblage/ formatage qui se fait sentir à chaque seconde sur une durée de 2H20 !, le film appelle l’indulgence. D’abord, l’histoire, pas idiote si on la compare à d’autres produits comparables, mêle SF référentielle et commentaire social si on veut. Dans un futur proche, les fameux 1% , ceux qui détiennent la majorité des richesses, règnent depuis leur capitale ultra moderne sur les 99% restants, lesquels sont astreints aux charges viles mine, agriculture… dans 12 ghettos-districts. Pour s’être autrefois révoltés, ils sont punis et doivent envoyer chaque année un couple d’ados par district, soit 24 participants pour une sorte de Koh Lanta télévisé avec des vrais morts et un seul vainqueur. Derrière le manichéisme, il y a quelques incitations à réfléchir sur l’ambiguité de ce genre de spectacle qu’ on n’est pas obligés de regarder».
